Getting Started

What it is

RapidCapture is an application designed to help you capture the information needed in a document, organize it, and augment the information after you’ve captured it.

Each piece of information is treated as a separate object. Each object has fields that contain information (for example: Question and Answer fields) and can have supporting asset files attached.

Don’t feel like typing in your information? Each field can record any number of audio files, and attach them to the project.  You can convert that audio to text using speech-to-text conversion at a later time and use the converted text in your document.

You can also sort and organize your objects into multi-level categories through a simple drag and drop structure tree that also provides a visual representation of completion status of each object and any assets that have been added.

Once you are done adding, augmenting and organizing your information, you can publish the project to HTML, which can be edited and styled further in any HTML-ready word processor.

Where it all started

RapidCapture was originally designed to assist instructional designers capture information from a subject matter expert (SME) in a knowledge capture process we call “Rapid Knowledge Capture”.

Rapid Knowledge Capture works like an interview, where the SME asks the questions he would ask a candidate if he wanted to evaluate whether or not they could perform a duty or task, or if they had the desired level of comprehension on a given topic.

Then the SME would organize those questions into categories, which would become the modules or chapters in your training, and answer the questions as desired, which would become the content.

The instructional designer could then write the enabling objective and learning strategy for the question and answer.

So, we started out building RapidCapture as a tool to assist in this process and we quickly realized that it could be used to do so much more.  We added in the features like customizing the fields, attaching asset files, recording audio, and speech-to-text conversions and the now the possibilities are endless.
